Description
The Canon EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM lens is a compact prime lens designed specifically for Canon’s crop sensor EF-S mount cameras. It offers a focal length equivalent to approximately 38.4mm on a full-frame camera due to the 1.6x crop factor of APS-C sensors. The lens features a well-constructed, compact design with a metal core and engineered plastics, making it lightweight and portable. It has an optical formula of 6 elements in 5 groups, a 52mm filter size, and a close focusing capability down to 6.3” with a maximum magnification of .27x. The lens utilizes Canon’s STM (stepping motor) focus motor for smooth and quiet autofocus performance, particularly beneficial for video recording. In terms of image quality, the EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM delivers sharpness across the frame with good contrast, controlled chromatic aberrations, and manageable distortion and vignetting. While it produces decent bokeh when close to the subject, some users may find the bokeh quality slightly lacking compared to higher-end lenses. Overall, the lens offers excellent optical performance for its price point and is suitable for various photography needs, including video recording.
